Moving

Hello people,

I apologize for not posting on a regular basis, but I have been busy with my packing and all. I am currently moving to my aunt's place in the Meadows temporarily, which is at the other end of Dubai, till my apartments in International City are ready. I am excited about moving into the apartment at International City. They are located in the Italy cluster.

I have got a studio and a one bed room apartment. I am now deciding which one I should move into. Moving into the studio means I will able to get a higher rent from the 1-bed room (going for 60,000dhs per year) as opposed to moving into a 1-bed and getting rental income of 50,000dhs per year from the studio.

Moving into the studio means people would be reluctant to stay with me, including my parents. Moving into the 1-bed means I will be able to have guests over and stay with me. Right now, I am weighing the pros and cons of moving into either one.

I already have ideas in my head of how I will decorate the interiors of whatever apartment I will move into. If it's the studio, then I will get one of those beds which is raised above the work desk, which will give me a lot of floor space. I will also paint one side of the walls dark brown to make the room look more cosy. However, if I move into the one bed room apartment, I will have a lot more options to play with. I plan on doing that bed room a deep dark red color and hang a victorian chandelier from the ceiling to give a classic, Victorian English look to the bedroom. But on the other hand, I want to have an African/ Kenyan theme in the living room to express my love for the Kenyan culture. I used to go to Kenya as a child, since my mom and her entire family were brougt up there. I love the people there, and the wildlife is to die for. Anyways, back to my room decoration, I have already scouted for the right Kenyan paintings and accessories to fill my room with. I want all things black, dark brown and wildlife stuff in there, all tastefully done of course.

More on my Kenyan culture fascination later (not to mention one of my best friend in this world is from Kenya- hey friend, you know who you are: Jambo, Habari Yako!)

I was so excited to read this article. I honestly didn't you know you liked the Kenyan culture so much. I must say I am impressed.

Good luck on the house decorating. Your ideas sound interesting. I hope you will post pictures of the end result once you have settled in your new home.

How about moving into either one and fully furnishing the other and renting it out on short term basis. You will make more money, and will be in the vicinity to 'manage' it efficiently. Then when you have visitors coming over they can stay in the furnished-to-lease flat if it is empty. There are some times of the year when it is virtually impossible to get a hotel room in Dubai. Thats when you can make your mega spondoolas. Advertise it online and play with google a bit to make sure it always comes out on top.....
You may send my advice fee to your nearest save the children fund;

Oh, I have so many pictures as a kid when I went to Kenya. They are all packed up right now, but will scan them once they are re-opened. There are pics of me with cousins standing next to tribesmen and wild animals. I even have some wearing pictures of leopards and elephants.

CG, I will rent out the other one. It all depends on which one I will finally move into. I don't think I will set it up entirely though. It's a great idea, and am thinking along those lines. But for now, I will move into the one which I like and rent out the other one, and then use that rental income for whatever purposes (including the nearest save the children fund!)

hey phaeadrus,

i am being more economical and practical if I move into the studio as a bachelor. sure, if I have a wife soon, then I will move in the 1-bed. the studio would be easier to maintain. go to ikea, check out what they do with their studio spaces and a raised bed looks really cool. ;-)

i was just teasing. but really though, i had a bunk bed when i was 10 and it pretty much sucked. the idea is a good one, but really everytime you get up in the middle of the night to go the bathroom, you're going to hate it.

Ok, its finally decided. I am moving into the one bed room apartment and rent out the studio. No more bunk beds lool!
