Saudi Women Reject Driving

Hey friends,

This survey was an eye opener for me. 88% percent of Saudi women reject driving, citing employment, marriage, divorce and an end to abuse of women as other issues more important. Fair enough, but I feel that once more women start working, they will soon see the need to drive. Although driving may not seem entirely important now, at one time later, it will. It would be easier for the women to go to work if they can drive, to have more mobility and freedom instead of depending on a driver. I am not going to argue against this survey, but keep in mind only 1014 women were surveyed, which would hardly represent the entire nation, where more than 50% are women.

I'm not surprised by this survey.
Women in this country just don't know any better. I'm gonna say it and I know this is gonna piss alot of people off, but here goes.. Women in this country are just too superficial! Just as it said in the article, marriage and reducing divorce was more of a priority to them. Where in the world would women choose marriage over independence? Women here care far too much about what society thinks. The worst thing for any Saudi woman is to be single, rather than being completely dependent on men.
Women here just don't know what it's like to be independent so it's not surprising they don't care for it!
Oh and about employment, well if they really wanted to work they can find jobs. The only problem is that most of these jobs require mixing with men and so they're not allowed to take such jobs. The sad thing about this is that those families are fine about their sons working with women!

Yeah, see, even if these women decide to work at places, would it not be easier if they had their own freedom and mobility, but then again, someone mentioned that the men here dont want to give hat freedom to women!

Ironic, because these very men let these women be in a car with a driver alone, let their daughters celebrate birthdays at Chilis with the filipino waiters clamoring over them, let their wives shop at lingerie shops with men handling the undergarment. Is there a height of hypocrisy?

Havin make-up on when goin 2 chilis I can understand but havin full make-up, like u'r goin 2 a wedding at 7:30 in the bloody morning at uni, even during exams, I cannot comprehend!
M: U'r so right about the hypocricy. My family r fine with me swimming abroad with men around as long as there r no Saudi men. It's complete BS. When I was living in London I went 2 a mixed college and that was fine with my parents. And now that we're in Saudi, they wont let me work anywhere that has men! Saudis, men and women, don't give a shit about Islam. All they care about is what people will say.
